Gema Marti, 21 years old from Spain is an exciting talent in hammer throw an has been training in the sport since the age of 9. Her talents were recognised through Spain by professional club scouts where she was given the chance to represent Barcelona in her discipline. With no hesitation Gema jumped at the chance to represent such a illustrious club and has now been a member of Barcelona for 4 years.
Not long after her start in the sport, at the age of 13 Gema was ready to compete in her first national competition. The talented athlete currently holds an Under 18s national record which leads me into stating her amazing list of 17 national medals in her career. It was evident that Gema was called up to the Spanish national squad, competing in international competitions all around the world, including the European and World Championships.
The sport has taught Gema how to value the small things in life, giving her the opportunity to travel around the world meeting amazing people which has shaped Gema into the woman she is today.
Unlike some other athletic disciplines, Hammer Throw isn’t as well known however, Gema uses her social media accounts to show her discipline to her followers which has led to Gema seeing a vast progression of participants getting involved in the sport. Whilst training and competing Gema is also currently studying Criminology, which she also promotes on her social medias pages, showing many young athletes that with the right mentality and dedication, both sports and studies can be done together.
